I was driving home last week when, before I could react, somebody came up behind me at considerable speed and shot past me on the shoulder of the highway. By the time the gravel stopped bouncing off my windshield and I had a grasp on what had happened, the driver was already vanishing in the distance.

It seems that lately we can't get away from daily reminders about how insane politics has become in this country and what the state authorities think they can get away with when it comes to regulating people's businesses and personal lives.
Looking at you, Texas and Florida.

Last week attorneys representing smalltime developers of iOS apps announced a class-action settlement with Apple over App Store policies and practices.

I am not a thin person. For the entirety of my adult life I have been in the range of what the grossly over-simplified body mass index considers "overweight." I've been okay with this for the most part. Sure, I'm not winning any fitness awards, but as long as I can climb a tree or carry a heavy object I've been comfortable where I am.

E3 is happening as I write this column but, oddly enough, some of the biggest news of last week wasn't about video games. Instead, mostly thanks to Netflix's "Geeked Week," this has been a crazy week for announcements on new animated projects.
Most of those announcements are, appropriately enough, video game related at least but overall this has just been a big week for adult oriented cartoons.

First of all, I want to wish each of you a Happy New Year, and thank you for reading the Chronicle. This year, more than ever, has shown the importance of community newspapers and our mission to bring you the latest in local news would not even begin to be possible without your support.

Boy are we lucky. Dawn and I, and our volunteers have had some social contact (however distant) gathering donations for the Salvation Army. I suspect other poor souls in the community are intensifying addictions to video games and Facebook. Have you vaporized Ziggy from Planet Woojed? What's the cat up to? At least such interests divert us from graffiti missions, eh?

You spend one weekend playing a video game and all the news just drops on you.

We finally got to watch some of the World Series through a trial membership in YouTube TV.
I've really missed watching baseball the last few years. But the rest of TV is such a waste-land we couldn't bring our-selves to drop other stuff to facilitate my craving.

Very interesting about the women leaving the work-force. It's almost like turning back the hands of time to where there was less crime and more neigh-borliness, not to mention- ei-ther less materialism or more prosperity that allows women to be the primary caregiver for their children. There's obvious-ly no lack of jobs available.

Well, I checked out the Libertarian (Large “L”) candi-date just in case. She proposes universal basic income. The Libertarians are still going after the ignorant vote, apparently.

Iowans continue to struggle with significant job losses and high unemployment as coronavirus cases soar in our state.
In particular, the pandemic threatens to erase economic gains made by women in re-cent decades. At the end of 2019, women held more than half the payroll jobs. Women now make up less than half of the workforce.

As Election Day approaches we all have a responsibility to elect officials who best represent us. Corey Eberling, your County Supervisor for the past 16 years is such a person.
